Antigua May Fight U.S. Online Gambling Ban Plan

from the online-gambling-is-good-for-business dept

The island nation of Antigua is getting upset over some US proposals to ban online gambling. They're getting ready to file an official World Trade Organization complaint against the US if it moves forward with the plan to ban gambling online. Antigua, of course, is home to quite a few gambling operations that are making lots of money from Americans sitting in front of computers holding credit cards in their hands. With tourism dropping, they're relying on gambling tax revenue to keep the nation going - so the threat of a US block is a big deal. Of course, any such resolution through the WTO would likely take several years - by which point things may have changed drastically.
