More Wireless On The Waters
Back in January we had the interesting story of a company named Wheat Wireless Services that had claimed to cover large sections of the coastline with WiFi access, which they were selling to cruise ships to pass on to their passengers. Now, it appears that Wheat Wireless is expanding their offerings. First, they're putting wireless connections in a variety of marinas around the country for boats that are docked their for extended periods of time. Apparently, the boats need to buy a specially configured wireless card from the company, and then pay $200/week for the access. A bit pricey, but perhaps worth it if you're offering the service to multiple people on a cruise ship. They're also working on a satellite based internet service that will cover more ground (er... water), and will include a VoIP option for making phone calls.
