AOL Asks FCC To Lift IM Restriction

Ever since the FCC required AOL to open up their IM system so that anyone else could connect to it, as a condition of their merger with Time Warner, AOL has simply ignored the ruling. They've done nothing to move in that direction whatsoever. Now, to flaunt that even more, they've asked the FCC to remove restrictions that prohibit AOL from offering video streaming via AIM. I still don't understand why the various companies with instant messaging products don't work together. They're hurting themselves - as IM is more valuable the more people who are using it (despite what the companies themselves seem to think). Now, of course, the FCC will probably back down, realizing there's no way in hell AOL is going to open up the network anyway.
