Reaching America Through EBay
from the it's-all-advertising dept
In the past we've had articles about all sorts of "publicity stunts" that use eBay as the publicity generator. It appears that eBay is finally recognizing this and promoting that fact to potential corporate sellers - pointing out that not only is eBay a good way to sell items, but it also has a high likelihood of generating attention from the press and internet users in general. Of course, I wonder how long this can last. At some point, the novelty of selling things on eBay starts to go away, and the publicity generation factor has to decrease. Update: Speaking of such publicity-by-ebay, back in December when we pointed out that eBay must be thrilled by the free publicity they got when someone sold a town on eBay, we also wondered if the bid was legitimate. It turns out that, four months later, the sale still hasn't been finalized, and the owners of the town are still waiting for their check.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
