NASCAR Fan Faces Prison Time For Flooding Fox With Emails
from the brilliant-people-out-there... dept
Fans didn't get their name from the word "fanatical" for nothing... A fan of NASCAR racing, however, seemed to get a little crazy when he decided that Fox was making a mistake in Boston by showing a Red Sox baseball game instead of a NASCAR race. He set up a script to flood the station with 530,000 emails. He's agreed to plead guilty and may face a year in jail for taking down Fox's website. What's amazing to me is that people who do this sort of thing don't seem to think they'll get caught - or that it will be a problem if they are found out. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
