Working 3D Monitors On Sale In Europe

from the ooooh dept

I still remember, when I was a kid, watching characters in the first Star Wars (Episode IV, if you must) playing that weird 3D chess-like game, where Luke is advised to "let the wookie win". At the time, I thought the idea of a 3D display was just incredible. It's been 25 years or so, and I still think the idea is cool, so I'm impressed to find out that a company has released a 3D monitor in Europe. The device is a globe that displays 3D images on the indisde. The quality doesn't appear great, but it's only going to get better over time. Enough of this 2D computing world...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    No Subject Given

Threepio advises Artoo to let the wookie win.

Of course, all this proves is that I have way too much free time.

Medical Imaging a long way off

There are legal requirements (DICOM) that medical images on video monitors have photographic resolution. Such specially built monitors go starting at $10,000 a pop. If they want 3-D images to have the same resolution, it looks like it will be another decade or two.
