The Wireless Instant Replay
People who know me well know that I'm fairly obsessed with baseball. I love going to games, but I'll admit that the experience has tradeoffs to sitting at home in front of the TV. You get a lot more information and stats and better views from the TV. However, the experience of being in the middle of things is tough to beat too. Now, a company thinks they can create the best of both worlds for the fan at a live sporting event by using WiFi networks to let fans tap into replays, closeups, stats, and other info while they're at the game. I'm a little confused how this works. Are fans expected to bring their own laptops (or, possibly, PDAs?). Or are they going to just use stadium provided kiosks? I'm not sure I'm comfortable with having the drunk fans sitting behind me spilling beer all over my laptop.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
