Buffalo Spammer Arrested

from the taking-down-the-spammers dept

Last week, Howard Carmack, known as the "Buffalo Spammer" was told by a court that he owed Earthlink $16 million for his spamming activities. Today, those might be the least of his problems, as he's been arrested in New York and charged with four felony and two misdemeanor charges, mostly for identity theft. This is apparently the first charges filed in New York under their new identity theft law. Famed NY Attorney General Eliot Spitzer (who has gone after spammers before) is hoping that Carmack will end up in jail, to go along with last week's $16 million judgment.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Am I the only one...

Who has a desire to stand up, start dancing and sing, "Ding Dong, the witch is dead"...

I'd have included more lyrics, but I'm afraid the MPA and/or MPAA would crack down on us for publishing lyrics...
