VC For A Day

from the look,-people-still-have-ideas dept

Lots of pessimistic folks out there keep saying that startups are dead and no one has any good ideas any more. Of course, that's not true, but it's always good to be reminded. A writer from Business 2.0 was given a chance to check out the entrepreneurial spirit by acting as a judge for a business plan competition for students at Wharton. While not all the ideas sound that promising, it's clear that there are still plenty of creative ideas out there that people are working on. In the end, though, it still comes down to having a good business understanding of the market you're in - which is why a completely non-tech company (pet insurance) ended up winning the competition over flashier companies that couldn't convince the judges that their markets really existed (or where that large).

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
