Hutchison 3G Shuffles Management
It's no secret that Hutchison Whampoa's 3G efforts in Britain have fallen short of the mark. Last month, commercial director Keith Bradley got a one-way plane ticket back to Hong Kong (the company's HQ) in a move the company said was unrelated to market performance (blimey!). Now, another shakeup has occurred in the UK division of Hutch, as day-to-day management of the bits'n'pieces is being transferred from Colin Tucker to Edward Brewster. Brewster has been co-CEO of the Italian 3G venture, which has signed up 50,000 subs to the UK venture's 10,000. A Hutch spokesman said that it is not a management shakeup, but rather just a transition from a development to a operational phase. Bullocks! If you've got 10k subs, mate, you're still in a development phase. The spokesman has all the credibility of Tinky Winky... nah, less.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
