PC Gaining In Entertainment Value
from the so-sayeth-Microsoft dept
For years, people have debated whether or not the computer was going to be the center of the home entertainment system of the future - or if it would be some other device, pushing the computer off to the periphery. Microsoft, of course, has been pushing the vision of the computer at the center, so it's really no huge surprise to have them come out with a study saying that the PC is surpassing the television and the stereo as the home entertainment medium of choice. Also not surprising is the fact that this trend is strongest among the younger generation, with teenagers being described as "fearless". I pretty much agree with the findings, though, part of the blame has to go to consumer electronics makers who have done very little to really embrace a connected world. Sure, there are some products out there, but many are still living in a pre-internet world.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
