A Night In The Hotel Of The Future
from the just-one-night? dept
I travel enough to know that just about every "basic" hotel room is pretty much the same. Sure, on the high end you can get some nice amenities, but if you're just looking for a place to sleep, it looks pretty much the same, and has the same features everywhere you go - and they haven't changed in years. I hardly consider adding a "data port" (read: phone jack) as a technology advancement. That may be changing. Last year, we had a story about the intelligent minibar that controlled the entire hotel room. However, that's just the beginning of how hotels are looking to join the 21st century. A reporter from PC World had the chance to spend a night in Hilton's hotel room of the future, which is where they're experimenting with all sorts of gadgets to make your stay nicer. From the description in the article it sounds like the in-room features are quite nice, but the bathroom features need a lot of work.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
