Iraq - You Turn Your Back One Minute...

A funny thing happened while the US was debating who should get the contract to build a cell phone network in Iraq: The British firm, Vodafone, went and built one. Yep, while the US quibbled, the Kuwait arm, MTC-Vodafone, completed a GSM network in the South under the authorization of the UK Ministry of Defense. Imagine that...those crazy brits gave the contract to a local company with a history of building GSM phone networks in foreign lands. Perhaps they should have considered Barings Bank (a local company that robbed shareholders, and has no business in wireless).
