The latest study from the good folks at the Pew Internet and American Life Project are looking at how people use high-speed internet connections and have found that it's much closer to the "crazy" predictions people had of the internet a few years ago. It seems that once people have the always-on, higher speed connections, they use the internet a lot more, and they buy a lot more online - just like plenty of people predicted during the boom years. The main factor that kept those original predictions from coming true may just have been a slower than expected rollout of affordable high-speed internet access. It wasn't the impact of the internet that was wrong - but the speed with which people would adopt it.
