Hutchison's 3 UK Tells Rivals To Get Off The 3G Fence

In an effort to stop having everyone focus on how big a failure they've been Hutchison's 3 is complaining that other wireless carriers in the UK are too slow to offer 3G services. Well, with Hutchison's "success" story to lead the way is it any wonder that the others are taking it a bit slow? Hutchison's like the crazy first kid in summer camp who (without thinking) runs and jumps into the lake, and then has to pretend (through chattering teeth) that "oh yeah, come on in, the water's warm!" I have no problem with pushing carriers to do their best to launch 3G services, but I'd prefer that they do it right, with systems that work, and with plans that are well-thought out and fairly explained, than to just hype whatever they can think of without executing on their promises.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
