Many Companies Lack Wi-Fi Security
Leave it to an analyst firm to remind us of the obvious. As has been discussed in about fifty reports before this one, Jupiter Research tells us that many companies pay no attention to WiFi security. That's not news. Of course, like every other report, this one fails to state what the real risks are. The fact is, many companies don't bother with WiFi security, because they realize the actual risks aren't that big. Yes, it would be nice if there were better security solutions out there, but for all the hype over poor WiFi security, there hasn't been a single story talking about how someone broke into a corporate network and stole sensitive data. I'm not saying that it hasn't happened (I'm sure it has...) but the expected risk to most companies just isn't that high - and, thus, they won't care about security until it's (a) cheap and (b) easy to set up and use.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
