FTC Keeps Taking Down Web Scammers
from the shut-'em-down dept
It appears the FTC is being kept extra busy these days taking care of small-scale scam operations that trick people online. They've gotten a temporary restraining order and frozen the assets of one company that
promised people a profitable home business for $60 and then added all sorts of extra fees while providing them with nothing that let them actually create a profitable home business. They've also settled with a three-person operation for running a
fraudulent envelope stuffing operation that they advertised by spam. They would get people to pay $40 to sign up, saying they would pay $2 per envelope stuff. However, once they got the $40, they never sent the envelope stuffing material. It's nice that the FTC is cracking down on these guys, but there are thousands of such scams going on out there. I wonder how many new ones popped up today alone? People need to be educated not to buy into these get-rich-quick schemes, because they're all scams.
