Are Camera-Phones Good News Or Bad For The Photography Industry?
Just as the photography industry has come to terms with the rise in digital photography, they suddenly have to start thinking again. The Economist is wondering how camera phones will impact the photography industry. With current digital cameras, the industry has focused on helping people get prints made of the images. However, with a camera phone, you can easily send your photos to other phones or to email addresses on computers. Some say this could be good for the industry, since more people will be taking photographs more often - and they're going to need prints. Others say that last part is a big assumption, and the need for "prints" may be going away. About the only thing people can agree on is that no one is really sure how people are going to end up using camera phones, and there are going to be plenty of surprises.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
