Former Wrestler Sues Videogame Maker
from the maybe-the-name-just-isn't-that-original dept
A former professional wrestler who (sometimes) went by the name Maxx Payne is suing gaming company Rockstar Games for $15 million for "stealing his identity" with their Max Payne games. Apparently, the wrestler, whose real name is Darryl Peterson, didn't realize that (1) the name isn't that original and (2) the game has been out for a few years now. It seems unlikely that Rockstar specifically picked on some not-very-well-known wrestler as the inspiration for their video game. It also seems highly unlikely that Mr. Peterson's wrestling persona had anything to do with the success of the game, but that won't stop him from trying to clean up in court.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Or the time David Schulz was asked if wrestling was fake and smacked the reporter in the ear and asked, "Feel real?"
Max Payne has long been out of the wrestling scene. if he's doing the "indy circuit" then he's definitely just looking for some bucks.

What's the difference?
I like the Simpsons episode where Homer changed his name to "Max Power"...
Trent: Oh, hey! Great name!
Homer: Yeah, isn't it? I got it off a hair dryer.
