eBay As The Ecommerce Platform Of Choice

from the an-eBay-based-career dept

While there have been plenty of stories about people who ended up making money as an "accidental" career on eBay, it's increasingly common for people to specifically plan out and start eBay-based businesses. People are realizing that eBay is just an e-commerce platform, and are building entire businesses around selling through eBay. Of course, as a few people in the article point out, many people forget that in order to successfully make a career out of selling stuff on eBay, you also need to keep buying stuff that you'll be able to sell at a higher price. The real trick is finding a regular supplier of goods, and then being able to turn them around on eBay for a profit. While larger companies are now moving into using eBay as a platform, smaller sellers say that the level playing field is nice - and the differentiation that keeps them in business is good personal service.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Google instead of eBay

There was an article in the paper the other day about people using Google instead of eBay, saying it was much cheaper to use Google textads than to list on eBay. Of course this works if you already have an ecommerce site set up, can handle credit-card transactions, etc.
