Girls Like Gadgets, But The President Doesn't
from the gadget-mania dept
While, typically, it's been the male half of the population that has been more obsessed with "gadgets", things may be changing. New studies have shown that girls are getting into gadgets as well. In fact, more teenaged girls have mobile phones than guys. Of course, you could just say that's because it's a "phone" and not a gadget - and, stereotypically, girls are bigger phone talkers than guys. However, there's also some evidence that interest in mobile phones is leading to interest in other gadgets. Meanwhile, going in the other direction, it turns out that President Bush isn't a gadget sort of guy, though, that doesn't seem surprising. As the article points out, he doesn't need gadgets, since he has people around who will do everything for him.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

The Bushes
The "amazement" that was captured was the computer's ability to keep track of inventory as it scanned out items, which was pretty amazing stuff 10 years ago. Then, again, it's not like the director of the CIA or the pres runs down to the Quick-E-Mart when the First Spook/First Lady runs out of milk.
In a similar vein, I know of executive VPs and even CEOs of public high-tech companies who can't run a fax, have difficulty with email and don't know powerpoint since they have had lackies do it for them for years . One CEO I know just writes out slides long-hand and gives it to a Director level person to do, making this person a very high paid secretary.

Re: The Bushes
And I am sure that person probably is happy to do it. Or they instead pass it off to someone under them to do. Pay me half-a-mil-a-year and I'll do it too. Oh, wait, I already do it now for far less...
