Red Wine In The Fountain Of Youth?
from the drink-up dept
There have been plenty of studies on the potential health benefits of red wine. Now you might be able to add "living longer" to the bunch. Some researchers have discovered that a chemical found in red wine, resveratrol, may help cells live longer - though (of course) plenty more research needs to be done. The article details the research including the how the discoveries were made - and the fact that it's only in small doses that the chemical in question seemed to do any good. Like any such discovery, there will be years of testing, and plenty of contradictory studies, but in the meantime, the researchers who made this finding say that they "celebrate with red wine" every time they make a new discovery.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. Little bit of Red Wine and Alcohol keeps the docto
Just make sure you don't drink too much red wine, as too much is just as bad if not worse than not enough.

Fungus Juice
Wine is traditionally made by stepping on grapes with bare feet, so the better wines have this component of toenail seasonings. Traditionally, wine is sterilized by burning sticks of sulfur inside the barrell to kill the toebutter, but sometimes they can outgrow the "normal" yeast, so we end up with a concentrated solution of C. Albicans.

Re: Fungus Juice
I don't think anyone stated that yeast was bacteria. However, years lives squarely in a family known as "water molds". Yeast does have some good redeaming qualities, as it is high in Vitamin B12, which supposidly is a half way decent cure for a hang-over and supposidly the reason why you cannot get one after drinking a Hefeweisen, but this has the looks of an urban legend.
However, I am sure StarbucksTM isn't too happy with you using their trademarked term FrappucinoTM to discuss yeast infections. I am sure you'll be missing for a couple more months while they sue the pants off of you.
As for lactobacilli, yeast does not kill lactobacilli, nor does lactobacilli kill yeast (at least not actively, though both may compete for the same food.) They both live in harmony and tend to spoil a perfectly good batch of beer if you aren't sanitary about those things. The acid content in yogurt does more to kill the yeast (which, like lactobacilli, has a very small window of PH-Balance they can survive in,) than anything else. But from the looks of things, you don't know much about brewing anyway, so I guess I won't hold that against you.
While you're at it, you might look into the Gillette razors...apparently someone thinks they are the key to the end of human civilization, maybe some yeast got in the shipment and is now converting beer into cheap, domestic yellow fizzy water, and causing other issues.

Re: Fungus Juice
I think you are trying to say yeast. My microbiology textbook shows no mention of "water molds". Molds are hyphae, a different class of organisms.
>Yeast does have some good redeaming qualities, as it is high in Vitamin B12,
Nope, vitamin B12 comes from seafood, pseudomonas bacteria, and some enterobacteria. In other words, when we inadvertently eat the shit imbedded in our fingernails, we get an important source of vitamin B12. Some vegans go blind from lack of vitamin B12.
>which supposidly is a half way decent cure for a hang-over and supposidly the reason why you cannot get one after drinking a Hefeweisen, but this has the looks of an urban legend.
It is an urban legend indeed. Hangovers result from toxic breakdown products of ethanol, as well as other contaminants in the liquor (e.g. fusel oils, long-chain alcohols). Other than drinking lots of water to help flush them out, no substance is known to accelerate the excretion of these products.
>However, I am sure StarbucksTM isn't too happy with you using their trademarked term FrappucinoTM to discuss yeast infections. I am sure you'll be missing for a couple more months while they sue the pants off of you.
Sure, if they want to deal with 6-inch-tall headlines of them telling me to stop talking about fish-flavored FrapFountains.
>As for lactobacilli, yeast does not kill lactobacilli, nor does lactobacilli kill yeast (at least not actively, though both may compete for the same food.)
Never said they did.

As far as I've heard, yeast are quite pH-tolerant. The yogurt contains lactobacillus to innoculate the vente-sized ItchTunnel, so that the woman can become a happy customer of double raspberries again.

You seem to have had too much homebrew.

Re: Fungus Juice
1. Yeast generates vitamin B12.
2. Vitamin B12 has any effect on hangovers.
If what you said is true, then people should also be able to eat seafood and magically make their hangovers go away.

Re: Fungus Juice
Easy, one of the largest producers of Vitamin B12 for a vegan diet is Yeast. Oops...
Fish is not the only place that Vitamin B12 is found...but you don't google your facts, do you?
2. Vitamin B12 has any effect on hangovers.
It might, then again, it might not. The jury is still out on whether Hangovers are caused by too much acetaldehyde in the blood stream, or by leaching by Alcohol of essential vitamins, minerals, and water, or by any number of other causes. Alcohol does cause a leaching of vitamins, mainly Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, and B12. And the process of converting Alcohol to acetic acid requires water, as well as the expulsion of acetic acid from the body through urination.
Taking in Vitamins and water is listed on most medical sites covering hangovers as an important way to lessen a hangover...but then again, you don't listen to that stuff, because you already know the answer to every question ever asked, oh oracle of inane wisdom.
But then again, what do I know...I've been drinking too much of my homebrew...anyone want a round on the house, my kegs are waiting?

Re: Fungus Juice
Of course not, Google is full of worthless "information" from quackery providers.
You will have to site information from a print source before I believe you. And my textbook was published in 2002, not "50 years ago" as you claim.

Again, I don't listen to worthless quackery sites. You will have to site print sources.

Dorpus is going to continue harassing you with a 50 year old biology book from now on, believing that he knows everything there is to know about everything.
The fact that they don't have google where Dorpus comes from should tell you something...
Welcome to the club...

Re: Fungus Juice
My experience has been somewhat different. I once consumed a single glass of homebrew and when I woke up the next day I had a hangover the likes of which mortal man wasn't meant to comprehend. My eyes were so bloodshot I literally thought I had pinkeye.
So, anyway, your milage may vary.

the big red wine / chocolate lie
Well my point is, it is true that some red wine is good for you, but to think that is TOTALLY absurd.
If you are concerned about your health, then just eat the grapes. You gett more of the vital nutrients that the red wine gives, without having them break down during the fermentation process. I mean really, think about what's going on here, do you think the nutritional value is created out of thin air during the fermentation process or do you think the nutrients are in the grapes, which slowly gets destroyed as they age?
And on that note, the whole thing about chocolate being good for you is equally absurd.
