Sprint PCS Unveils Complete Youth Strategy - Like A Virgin

What comes around goes around. Sprint PCS, the underlying network invisibly serving the Virgin Mobile MVNO in the US is going to become a re-seller of Virgin Mobile services. In what appears to be a sound business decision, Sprint PCS will commit to using Virgin as its youth market segment strategy. Originally Sprint PCS benefited from Virgin sales by increased network traffic, and a large equity share in Virgin. With this deal, Sprint PCS will also add the benefits normally targeted at mobile retailers, like Carphone Wharehouse or Radio Shack. These benefits usually include a commission on the sale, and an ongoing share of the customer's bill amount. Virgin also benefits by leveraging Sprint PCS' established national distribution network, and trained staff. Sprint PCS can keep their brand for business and postpaid (mid and high tier) users, and use the Virgin brand for youth and pre-paid users.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
