Overture Tries To Force T-Online To Keep Them
from the keep-trying dept
Last month we wrote about how Overture had lost their first customer to the Yahoo buyout - as T-Online believed that Yahoo was too much of a competitor to remain an Overture customer. Overture, however, has a different opinion on the matter and is trying to force T-Online to live up to their contractual obligations and keep using Overture until the contract runs out. Overture says the court has granted them an injunction forcing T-Online to keep using them. First of all, I would guess that T-Online, if forced to keep using Overture, will do their best to hide any Overture based results. However, I'm especially surprised that the Overture-T-Online contract didn't include an out in case of acquisition. It's pretty standard for deals of that nature to let either side opt-out when the other is acquired.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
