Transparent Nanostructured Bandages Will Heal You Soon

from the um,-but-why? dept

Roland Piquepaille writes "As says the Singapore Straits Times, "it's clear how this bandage works." Nanotechnologists in Singapore have developed a transparent adhesive bandage which protects a wound while allowing air and moisture to circulate so that it heals faster. Made of a special nanostructured polymer membrane, the protective strip also allows doctors to see how the wound is healing, so that they know exactly when it can be removed. And it will be on sale at your local drugstore within two years. Check my blog for more excerpts and references." Of course, I think part of the nice thing about bandages is that it covers up the wound so everyone doesn't have to see it. Also, any time people say something is "nanotech" these days, I wonder if they're just saying that for the hype.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

This type of dressing is not exactly new. Tegaderm by 3M and Op-Site by Smith & Nephew have been around for years. There are other brands with comparable products as well.
