Police Don't Want To Give Up Recalled Segways

from the just-one-more-day,-please? dept

Despite the well-known Segway recall last week, a police department in Juneau, Alaska is asking if they can keeping using their Segways for now, if they promise to charge up the batteries (the recall was because batteries on a low charge could cause people to fall off the machines). What's odd, is that the police department doesn't even own these Segways. They're testing them out for a couple of months and will make a decision when they're done. In the meantime, it sounds like they're so hooked on the scooters that the idea of giving them up to get the problem fixed is too difficult to handle.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

      Re: SEgway Snow Tires

Yes, extra traction tires are available. They are
Michelin, heavily siped soft rubber compound, and
are drilled for studs. Work great in low traction
      conditions.

    Easy Cop Upgrade Cycle:

Just tell the pigs that they need to send their Segways back to get a new donut holder installed.

Jesus... has the fine art of constructive lying finally died or what?
