HP Cutting The Wires

Who needs wires? HP is getting ready to push forward on many fronts with various wireless technologies. From the article, it sounds like they're looking to cram in as many wireless radios as possible into every device they can get their hands on. That is, they're going beyond just adding wireless connectivity to try to (where possible) add multiple forms of wireless connectivity to their devices. What will be interesting is to see, down the road, how these various multi-wireless devices get used. In most cases, it seems likely that they'll mostly use one form of wireless, while only a few hard-core users will find reasons to make use of their other connections. Still, it's yet another indication that we'll eventually move towards a world where the device figures out the best connection for the activity at hand, and the end-user doesn't need to worry about it.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
