Moving Navigations Systems From The Dashboard To The Phone

Telematics applications are increasingly moving away from specialized applications built into the car itself (such as OnStar) and are increasingly looking for ways they can be tied in with a driver's mobile phone. The latest is the increasingly popular (and expensive) navigation system. The NY Times is reporting on new navigation systems designed to work in the phone itself, though, they require GPS systems - which limits the number of phones they work on. Still, it does foreshadow the increasing trend of moving such applications out of the dashboard, and onto the phone.
