Hastert May Force House To Vote On Senate Anti-Spam Bill
from the that-was-quick dept
Last week the Senate made a lot of news for pushing through a version of an anti-spam bill. The next stage was to get the House to approve their own version - but infighting between different version has kept the process bogged down. Now, House Speaker Dennis Hastert has decided he hates spam so much that he's not waiting for the rest of his colleagues. He just wants to take the Senate's version of the CAN SPAM bill and put it to a full House vote - where most Congressional Representatives would hate to have their name associated with a "no" vote on an anti-spam bill. While I can understand the desire to get something done about spam, I'm still afraid that in "pushing things through", the bill will miss many important issues and end up causing more problems than it solves.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
