Who Will Provide Content For Your Phone?
Well, here is yet another article worrying about who is going to provide the data content for mobile phones to make them worthwhile for people to buy. Again, I think this is the wrong attitude. Too many companies are looking at higher end mobile phone networks as the equivalent of broadcast systems, where buyers will only buy it if they have some sort of worthwhile content to access. In most cases, people can access worthwhile content online at a computer. They're looking to mobile phones for what they've always looked to mobile phones for: as a communications device. While there is some fit for broadcast-style data, it's not going to make anyone rush out to buy a phone. It's the ability to communicate that makes a mobile phone worthwhile - and therefore, the answer to "who will supply content for a mobile phone" is probably the end user.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
