Mobile Parking Comes To The US
The US always seems a bit behind when it comes to adopting new mobile phone devices and applications. So, while we've already had stories about the ability to pay for parking with your mobile phone in Singapore, Ireland, Scotland and Vienna, I'm still a bit surprised to hear that it's coming to the US already. That's right, over in lovely Greenwich, Connecticut they're planning to let people pay for their parking via their mobile phones. It's a little unclear how this system works, as they say anyone who signs up has to get a special "tag" for inside their car. I'm not sure if the tag is just so the meter maids don't ticket you, or if it has some sort of actual purpose in the system. The system does allow the most important feature, though, which is the ability to extend your parking time from anywhere.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
