Back when "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" was first on the air, lots of people would make jokes about "asking the audience for help," making fun of one of the "lifelines" on the program. Now it appears that such "ask the audience" systems are making their way into high school classrooms. The article discusses a similar system where a teacher can "ask the room," and they all punch in their multiple choice answers on a handheld, so the teacher can get a good idea of how many people are keeping up with the lesson - while also making the experience a bit more fun and involving. As you could have guessed, they even include a quote from a teacher saying that it makes the class room kind of like a game show. While some people might have problems with these sorts of things, if used well, it seems to make a lot of sense. It's a good way to make sure that the class is keeping up with the lesson, without just using a sample size of one student who feels put on the spot.
