Well, Teacher, I'd Like To Ask The Classroom For Help
from the turning-school-into-a-game-show dept
Back when "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" was first on the air, lots of people would make jokes about "asking the audience for help," making fun of one of the "lifelines" on the program. Now it appears that such "ask the audience" systems are making their way into high school classrooms. The article discusses a similar system where a teacher can "ask the room," and they all punch in their multiple choice answers on a handheld, so the teacher can get a good idea of how many people are keeping up with the lesson - while also making the experience a bit more fun and involving. As you could have guessed, they even include a quote from a teacher saying that it makes the class room kind of like a game show. While some people might have problems with these sorts of things, if used well, it seems to make a lot of sense. It's a good way to make sure that the class is keeping up with the lesson, without just using a sample size of one student who feels put on the spot.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
