Intel Trying To Make Georgia County Go Wireless
Intel continues their promotional push for wireless, but this time they're adding a bit of WiMax to the mix as well. They're talking to officials from Houston County in Georgia about making it the "first wireless county", and covering the entire county with WiMax to let anyone log on from anywhere. At least, if that works out, their commercials will be a bit more accurate. It's not a done deal yet, and it's unclear right now who would foot the $2 million bill to WiMax up the county, but it sounds like it's going to happen. Intel would love to do it for the promotional value of having a working WiMaxed county, and the county would love to do it to make them look technologically ahead of the curve. It's just a question of whether or not that's worth $2 million to both sides.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
