Is There Any Tech Company That Doesn't Plan To Offer An Online Music Store?
from the just-curious dept
What a world iTunes has created. If a company is in the technology space, it seems to be preparing to offer its own music download store. Next up to bat will be Hewlett Packard offering up downloadable songs for sale (with all the usual copy protection, of course). Does anyone want to start taking bets when all the various tech company run download music stores will start folding, be spun off, or start merging?Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Cross compare?
It would be great to see at a glance each site's available formats, bitrates, summary of copy protection used (or not), etc.
Any takers if there isn't one? ;-)

My big fear
I'm not a big fan of Apple, but it seems they got iTunes pretty much right (or as right as we'll probably see for a while) so I don't see a need for 15 other competitors in the same space. I don't want to have to sign up for 16 different music accounts so I can get all the songs I want to hear.
