Onwards To 4G

Sure, sure, sure. Companies are still struggling to figure out how exactly they're going to get to 3G offerings (and whether or not they'll get people to pay), but that's no reason to slow down. Companies like Samsung are pushing forward with plans to figure out how to move past 3G on to 4G. While they don't expect anyone to launch a 4G network until at least 2007 (which might be a bit optimistic), they're excited about the potential for wide-area wireless technology that could offer data rates over 100 Mbps. Of course, some might say we're better off focusing on getting current cellular networks to work better, but people are always going to be looking to the future. Of course, as with most of these things, the estimates are probably a bit optimistic in terms of timing and speeds.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
