The Web Is Not TV
from the let's-try-this-again... dept
This seems obvious to most folks around here, but it appears that some marketing folks are just beginning to get an inkling that, perhaps, the web is very different from TV and the idea of putting 30 second "TV spots" on the web doesn't make sense. People view a TV and a computer in two very different ways and they interact with them in different ways. Just because taking a spot and repurposing it seems easy to marketing folks doesn't means it's the right thing.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

No Subject Given
but marketing and paid for click advertising has turned our wealth of books into a gallery of magazines.
Short snippests of content surrounded by junk.
It is sad really.

Re: No Subject Given
The web is your tv, radio, your phone, every book ever published, it's got a million chat rooms, on demand programming in every language. It's your art gallery, instant comminication with friends and loved ones, it's the ability to be anywhere in the world at any time in any language. The web tears down conventional limitations like linier time and space.
