Cingular Wins AT&T Wireless As Bidding War Tops $41 Billion
from the that-didn't-take-long dept
As most people expected, Cingular (who was much hungrier and much better positioned to do the deal) has made the final bid that made AT&T Wireless' board smile - topping $41 billion in an all cash deal. Even though everyone knew that Cingular and Vodafone were upping each other's bids all weekend, most people seemed to think the bidding would stop around $38 or $39 billion - with a slight chance of hitting $40. In fact, Vodafone dropped out at $38 billion - showing just how much Cingular wanted (and overbid) for AT&T Wireless. Now comes the tricky part: integration and fallout. Don't expect the deal making to be done just yet.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Re: Cing -> AT&T
I'm one of those who would like to get away from Cingular. Where to now?!?
Where do people go to centralize their complaints to have an effect?
Thanks!
Dave
