Jacking Into Music On The Street... And Putting It On The Radio
from the notice-the-differences dept
As radio has become increasingly homogenized with bland plastic pop that the recording industry represents the most "marketable", it appears that many people simply prefer to retreat into their own musical worlds with portable music players. Two radio shows, one in NY and one in London, have decided to get a feel for what people are really listening to on the street, and have taken up the practice of jacking into people's music players as they find them traveling around - and then interviewing them to ask about the music they're listening to. Clearly, both locations feature a very diverse set of people with very diverse musical tastes. The only time they mention a more popular act it's to talk about how horrible it is, and how the show's creators didn't want to play it on the air.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
