Are You Emotionally Involved With Your Computer?
from the it's-just-a-box... dept
It's really not all that surprising that people become emotionally involved with their computers, but here are some numbers on just how strong that relationship is for folks in the UK. Children, it appears, have the strongest connection - to the point that some are saying their computers will be considered more important to them than family members. Already, many consider their computers "a friend". No news on how many consider it "a foe". Apparently, though, people do like to boast about their computers to friends (with men being more likely to bring up their computer in conversation). Does this mean baby pictures will have to fight for room with computer pictures? I'm sure for some they already do.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Re: Laptop blues
My wife, my kids, all use the machine. But it's not that we love the computer so much as we love what it enables us to do. It's simple really. Why not have a survey asking how much people love their shoes and socks? I think the numbers on that would scare you.

Re: Laptop blues
Its just that its mine, I spend time working with it, working ON it to make it work just right...its a bit like a home.
You decorate a home to make it livable, comfortable and inviting and you spend time there so you are attached to it...my laptop is the same.
