More Silly WiFi Pricing: When Your WiFi Costs More Than Your Meal
When McDonald's first launched their WiFi experiments in NYC, they had a great idea: you get free WiFi for an hour, if you buy a meal. That puts the incentives all in the right place. Since then, though, they've been experimenting with a variety of pricing options around the world, and some of them are just silly. In Australia, for example, the WiFi at a McDonald's is likely to cost more than the meal itself! That's not exactly incentive to drag the old laptop along. It makes you wonder what the pricing people are thinking. In this case, the pricing is being set by telecom firm Telstra, but the association is still with McD's, and if they were smart, they'd step in and tell Telstra it's time to adjust.
