Web Movie Reviewers Don't Get No Respect
from the look-at-us!--we're-here! dept
The folks in Hollywood seem to have no problem blaming bad online news for dismal box office performance, but, for the most part, they've been slow to recognize the positive impact online movie reviewers can have on ticket sales. Online movie reviewers are still mostly being ignored by studio publicity folks who spend all kinds of money to convince newspaper, TV and radio movie reviewers to write positive reviews. Of course, while some of the reviewers complain, this might just be better for those of us who like to read those reviews - since they're less tainted by the need to please the movie publicists to get invited to more screenings and events.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

The idea of having a medium totally out of their control trying to decide separately what's a good movie -- Perish the Thought!!
(Of course they were NEVER REALLY in control, but they thought they were.)
