Kwickee Bitesize... Wikipedia Mobile?
Textually points to 160Characters story about a new service called Kwickee Bitesize. It's a mobile service where anyone can submit info on anything by SMS (sports, travel info, health info, fashion, fiction stories, etc.) and then anyone will be able to receive that content for a small fee. 60% of the fees collected go to the author. In other words, it becomes a clearinghouse of info, where anyone can submit the info, and they get paid based on how much it's used. A very interesting idea, and one that seems sort of like Wikipedia for mobile phones. However, the problem arises in determining whether you're willing to receive content from just anyone. Without some sort of explicit rating system (which has its own problems), how do you know you're getting worthwhile content. When you're just getting a short snippet of text, if it's no good, you could end up angering a lot more users than you're helping.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
