The Difference Between Content And Services

Slowly, but surely, it looks like people in the industry are finally starting to realize what many people have been talking about for years: the internet is not a TV, and people don't want broadcast-style content. It's not "content" at all that people want. They want services that let them interact. These are services that let them do something, such as connect with other people. It's not "interactive TV" where you watch some broadcast content and have the ability to "click the red button" for more information (which, as the article mentions is really "enhanced TV" more than interactive TV). People don't get online to sit back and view content pushed to them. They get online to accomplish something. Yet, "content providers" and broadband providers still seem to be focused on turning the internet into another television because they never seem to stop and look at how people are actually using the medium.
