One Year Later... European Mobile Alliance Gets A Brand
For those paying close attention, you may remember the announcement, nearly a year ago, for a bunch of European wireless carriers to team up and offer roaming across all their networks in an effort to fight off the growing worldwide dominance of Vodafone. Of course, things didn't run so smoothly from the start, and there was even some well publicized bickering over who had the rights to what nations. Now, however, their differences have been put behind them (or at least locked up out of view for the time being) and they've announced that the alliance has a brand: FreeMove. Of course, while they now have a brand, they still don't have an actual service and some are a bit skeptical on the chances of such a service - with or without a brand. To be honest, reading all the press coverage about this story, the only thing I can think of is "it took them a year to come up with just a brand?"Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
