Virgin Mobile To Launch In Canada
As expected Virgin Mobile will try to continue their UK and North American MVNO successes with a Virgin Mobile cellular service launch in Canada. Virgin will partner with carrier Bell Mobility to provide the network. Techdirt first covered this story on November 6, when the Canada's national newspaper, The Globe And Mail suggested that Microcell was likely to be the carrier of choice. At that time, I was surprised that Microcell should be in the deal, and explained in the comments section that Bell Mobility was a far more likely candidate than Microcell. Now that we know Bell is the partner, we can almost certainly expect the MVNO to look very much like the US operation, with the same terminals, content, call centers, etc. In fact, this could possibly end up being the best Canada-USA roaming service the mobile industry offers. Hope those guys are up on their French! Vive le Quebec Mobile!Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
