  Mike, you're american. 'pal' means something different outside the small box that is your country. The lack of the word 'former' in a medium as compressed for space as a headline, in contrast to the annoyingly common practice you lot have for dropping honorifics from news articles in a manner that continually confuses the story, is really quite minor.
  
  Please write your local NYT or Seattle PI editor and inform them they're fired. Then work on international news.
