Making The Case For Fixed Wireless Broadband
It looks like more people are coming to the conclusion that fixed cellular wireless might be a viable solution for wireless carriers to offer broadband data to the premise. The argument is that since the cellular infrastructure is already installed, it wouldn't cost as much as greenfield options. Of course, the reliability and the speed might not match up with wired or data-centric wireless solutions. Also, more importantly, the cellular networks really aren't set up to handle much data traffic. That's why current prices for cellular data are quite high -- because lower prices would overload the networks with their resulting spike in demand. Still, it will be an interesting space to watch, as the wireless carriers (and their fixed telco parents) figure out how they're going to play in a triple play world.
