The Family That Phishes Together...

from the gone-phishing dept

Microsoft and Amazon are getting some attention today for teaming up to go after phishing operations that targeted Hotmail users claiming to be from Amazon.com. What seemed most interesting, however, is that one of the supposed phishing scammers we've written about before. It was the family that spammed together, who had friends insist they could never be spammers because they're such nice people. This is also the same family who later claimed to have changed from their spamming ways, and announced that the son who supposedly ran the operation was becoming a rock drummer who would teach kids about the evils of the internet (no, seriously). Well, now it's looking like perhaps they did a bit more than just spamming if they're being accused of phishing as well. Makes you wonder what he's going to do this time to show he's sorry.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
