Bottom Hasn't Fallen Out For Telemarketers
from the so-much-for-that-theory dept
It was a little over a year ago that the telemarketing industry was putting out all sorts of FUD about how the Do Not Call list would destroy the American economy by tossing millions of telemarketers out of work, leaving them helpless to find any other work. It appears that's not true. In fact, some telemarketing firms report that business is booming. They've had to adjust a bit, and are handling calls for non-profits (exempt from Do Not Call) or setting up to handle inbound calls from marketing campaigns. Either way, consumers seem happier and the dire predictions of economic collapse seem to have been wrong.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

DNC list not an issue, offshore outsourcing is
I'm having a hard time finding the downside to all of this.

I love the new laws
What has changed is our calls are better targeted to people that are actually interested in being contacted regarding the products or services we are in the process of selling.
What else has changed is that our staff enjoy their jobs much more because they are talking with people that actually want to talk to them.
rarely does one of our staff members encounter a rude person.
And with the new laws, it empowers middle management persons like myself to allow our staff to tell people that we will gladly remove them ( and do so ) from future communications if that is their choice.

Re: I love the new laws
The national Do Not Call list just makes it easier to prove that you actually requested not to be called.

Re: I love the new laws
You know as well as I do that most companies never did keep " Do not call " lists prior to the national law.
