Playboy To Offer Soft-Porn To North American Mobiles
Noting that bawdy stories and ribaldrous accounts are as highly desired domestically as in European society, Playboy is bringing its unique brand of mobile journalism back to the home continent, with a deal with mobile developer Dwango. How exactly the US reacts to porn on phones is anybody's guess. Certainly the country, of late, has shown a more puritanical bent than most foreigners East of Istanbul can understand. Carriers are likely to offer the service, but somehow through a Dwango gateway as opposed to on their own menus, which will help them keep their distance from the tawdry content, while reducing their distance from the verdant cash flow. Interestingly, Dwango also develops apps for ESPN (a division of Disney) and a (for real) online religious community that offers mobile prayer content. Hey, with just two customers like that, you could claim "A wide range of content". Mobile porn. Isn't freedom great? Just keep two hands on the steering wheel.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
